The head of the Information and Culture Department of the Yemeni Islah Party, Mr. Ali al-Jaradi, says he does not remember that Yemenis witnessed a moment of exhilaration and pride as they witnessed on the dawn moment of May 22, 1990.

In his article on the occasion of Unity Day May 22 - the National Day of the Republic of Yemen - al-Jaradi indicated that unity was achieved in conjunction with the declaration of partisan pluralism and freedom of the press.

He stressed that the Yemenis - at a favorable moment - accomplished a dream as great as Yemen, but the political and administrative mechanisms failed to translate unity into content that takes into account the interests and rights of the people.

He made it clear that the person who took the decision on integrationist unity was Ali Salem al-Beidh, while Ali Abdullah Saleh was expecting that a confederal or federal unity would be achieved at best, however, Ali Salem al-Beidh suggested at the time the integrationist unity because it was a temper commensurate with the aspirations of the Yemenis who were one people in two states.

He praised the peaceful youth revolution in 2011, stressing that it came in order to restore the brilliance to the meaning of unity and to hand over the flag of Yemen to a southern figure with the aim of restoring the meaning of unity that was the dream of Yemenis and the slogan of their struggles in the past decades.

"Then the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference came in order to add another consideration to the political and economic partnership between the same country people," he added.

He pointed out that "with the announcement of the coup by the Houthi group against the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference in 2014, we lost the Yemeni state and the talk about unity and separation today in light of the loss of the state and the continuation of the coup as an existential threat to the south, north, east and west that requires reviewing priorities and restoring the state so that Yemenis can agreeing on political mechanisms that guarantee true partnership and a balance of political and economic interests.

He continued, saying: “In the event of the restoration of the state or without it being restored by peace or war, all of Yemen with all its directions will be threatened on an existential basis by a sectarian group that implements an Iranian agenda that makes Yemen a gun barrel that fires its bullets in every direction,” he added.

He stressed that Riyadh's consultations came from the perspective of restructuring Yemeni legitimacy and forming the Presidency Council to represent all the people of Yemen and all its anti-coup forces in order to be a top priority for the Presidency Council in restoring the state.

He made it clear that this would not be possible without the unification of the military and security forces according to the unification of the political decision in the Presidency Council, the government, the parliament and the rest of the state institutions, as well as the unification of economic resources and the payment of the salaries of state military, civilians and retirees employees.

He pointed out that the greatest danger that societies face in their unity and cultural identity is the emergence of hate speech that derives its roots from sectarian, geographic, ethnic or sectarian dimensions.

He also warned that the effect of this speech, which sows fragmentation and hatred in societies, outweighs the effect of bullets in tearing the fabric of societies, given its devastating effects, because it is a successful recipe for tearing and fueling wars.

“As much as the sons of the north need the support of their brothers from the people of the south in the face of Iran’s ambitions in the north and south, the people of the south need the greater Yemen for the south and Yemen to remain a single entity guarded by the unity of its sons in the face of international ambitions, the variables of conflict and competition around international corridors and Yemeni islands with International strategic location,” he added.
