Head of the Islah Parliamentary Bloc: Targeting Qahtan means hijacking the national project that he carries

The head of the Parliamentary Bloc of the Yemeni Islah Party, MP Abdul Razzaq Al-Hajri, described the targeting of the member of the Supreme Authority of the Yemeni Islah Party, the struggling Muhammad Qahtan, as a hijacking of the national project that Qahtan was carrying with other political forces.

In his speech on the program "The Future of a Nation" broadcasted by the Suhail satellite channel on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the abduction of Qahtan, al-Hajri added that he was among those who carried the homeland free from racial and dynastic discrimination, which the September 26 revolutionaries sought in 1962.

And he considered that the abduction and disappearance of the struggling Muhammad Qahtan is a natural result of the coup against the legitimacy by a group that came from outside history, the national consensus and the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, of which they were part.

Al-Hajri pointed out that the international community, as well as the Yemenis, made a big mistake, which is to allow the Houthi militia to enter the National Dialogue Conference before they give up their arms because they were hoping that these militias would engage in the dialogue process and move away from the behavior of violence and terror, as Yemen reaped a disaster represented in the six years of criminal war led by the Houthi militia that committed crimes and violations and destroyed the country.

The head of the Parliamentary Block of the Islah Party confirmed that days proved that the abduction of Qahtan is a hijacking of the entire country, the state project and social harmony by a group that destroyed the national fabric, considering that the abduction of Qahtan was the beginning of the criminal acts they committed against all Yemenis.

And he said: "It has not happened even in Israel that the families of the abducted persons do not know the whereabouts of their abducted sons and are unable to communicate with them."

He made it clear that the Yemeni Islah Party, as well as state institutions, activists and the international community, since Muhammad Qahtan was abducted from his home in April 2015, have tried to reach conclusions about his fate and communicate with his family, but the Houthi militia and its repressive apparatus have insisted that they not give any information related to him.

He pointed out that the UN Resolution No. 2216 included an explicit provision to release the four abducted political leaders, namely, Mr. Muhammad Qahtan, Major General Mahmoud al-Subaihi, Major General Faisal Rajab and Major General Nasser Mansour Hadi, but the Houthis refused this. However, the Houthi militia refused to disclose the fate of Mr. Muhammad Qahtan, especially after three of these abducted political leaders managed to communicate with their families.

Al-Hajri said, "The terrorist Houthi group insists on practicing systematic terrorism against the struggler Muhammad Qahtan and many other abductees and many leaders and activists of the Islah Party, as well as from other political forces, whether from the General People's Congress after December 2, 2017, Nasserists, Salafists, and some tribal sheikhs. Even the Jews, Baha'is, and even women and children were not spared from them. They did not leave a home in Yemen without leaving grief and death in it.

Al-Hajri confirmed that there is no logical explanation for the Houthi intransigence regarding the abduction of Mr. Muhammad Qahtan, even though he was the most open political leader of all forces, including the Houthis.

He explained that Qahtan is one of the pillars of political life in Yemen. It was he, with his companion, Jarallah Omar, and other political leaders, who founded the Joint Meeting Parties bloc, which included various political forces, as he used to extend bridges of communication with all parties, including the Houthi group.

He continued: "But intense hatred indicates that the Houthis do not believe in peace and live only in the shadow of wars because they fully believe that the stability of the country and peace and the return to normalcy will lead to their departure from the equation that they want to impose by force, oppression and weapons, otherwise the people have no objection to turning the Houthi group into a political party, but they know the people will not accept them."

Al-Hijri continued, saying: “The Houthis hate everything related to civil life, democracy, tolerance and acceptance of others, and Muhammad Qahtan used to represent this approach, and it is a model of the Yemeni civil project that rejects the ideology of the dynasty, sectarianism, regionalism. Consequently, the Houthis are working to get rid of this hatred for the national project by taking revenge on the models that bear this project."

He held the Houthi militia fully responsible for the safety and life of the struggler Muhammad Qahtan, and to disclosing his status to his family, the Yemenis and the international community, and the speed of his release.

He called on the international community to exert greater pressure, especially by the international envoy and the permanent members of the Security Council interested in the political process in Yemen, to release Mr. Muhammad Qahtan from the prisons of the Houthi militia. He said that these militias should quickly release him and express their good intentions if they are sincere in bringing peace to Yemen.

He continued, saying: Unfortunately, what we are seeing is the opposite. At the time when the initiative of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to bring peace to Yemen, which was welcomed by the world, came, the Houthis still reject it today. And he stressed their lack of seriousness in moving to peace, inferring that they did not present anything indicating their desire for peace, at least release of the abducted.

The head of the Parliamentary Block of the Islah Party confirmed that the issue of releasing the abducted people is a humanitarian issue and was and is still on the table to show goodwill, but the Houthis consider these abductees as human shields and compromise their lives to achieve their political and military projects.

He paid a great salute to the struggler Muhammad Qahtan and all the abducted in the prisons of the Houthi militia and all the people of Yemen who face the dynasty project.

For his part, the Minister of Human Rights and Legal Affairs, Ahmed Arman, revealed that the United Nations did not do what was required of it in general, in addition to that the Houthis during the last period did not give it any opportunity.

In turn, the head of the Committee of Prisoners and Detainees, Sheikh Hadi Haij, considered that the completion of 6 years after the abduction and disappearance of the struggler Muhammad Qahtan is a shameful matter for the United Nations and its special envoy Martin Griffiths, because Qahtan is included in the United Nations Resolution No. 2216, and the Houthi group should have worked on release him.

He said that the United Nations and its envoys do not exert any pressure on the Houthis to reveal the status of Qahtan and the rest of the political leaders and release them.

And the former Minister of Endowments, Dr. Ahmed Attia, considered that what is happening is a human tragedy before it was a political conflict regarding the continued abduction and disappearance of the politician Muhammad Qahtan and his companions.

He stressed that the Houthi militia, since its coup against the state, has trampled on the constitution, local and international laws, and even the values and norms that guarantee a person to meet his family and relatives.

He pointed out that Qahtan, who was abducted by the Houthi militia from his home, was a high-class man of dialogue who continued the Movenpick dialogue in an attempt to convince them of the mistake they committed.

He explained that, through the abduction of Qahtan, the Houthis wanted to deliver a message to the Yemenis that they do not believe in any political orientation and will not accept any political party, and that they are against dialogue, reason and logic.

He expressed his surprise at the international moves that have not yet raised the issue of political detainees in the prisons of the Houthi militia.
