The Secretary-General of the Yemeni Islah Party, Mr. Abdul Wahhab al-Anisi, met today, Sunday, the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths.

During the meeting, which was attended by Mr. Abdul Razzaq al-Hajri, member of the Supreme Authority of the Yemeni Islah Party and head of its parliamentary bloc, the Secretary-General broached the international efforts in Yemen and the Islah Party's position supporting them, the peace process and ending the war and coup.

Al-Anisi stressed the need for the international community to stand seriously against the war crimes committed by the Houthis against civilians in the Marib Governorate.

Al-Anisi considered that the recent Houthi escalation is fueling the conflict, nourishing the continuation of the war and weakening the hope of achieving peace in the country, pointing out that Marib is crowded with hundreds of thousands of civilians who are subjected to the Houthi bombing that targets them repeatedly with internationally banned weapons.

Al-Anisi denounced the international laxity towards the Houthi escalation in Marib, stressing the need for the international community to play its role in protecting civilians and not to double standards in dealing with the Houthi regarding its targeting of civilians in Marib, and he indicated what the international community's position was previously regarding the army's move towards Hodeidah to liberate it from the control of the coup militias.

Al-Anisi also condemned the Houthi militia’s continued denial of the arrival of a UN team to maintain the Safir reservoir, which could herald an environmental catastrophe threatening Yemen and the countries bordering the Red Sea.

For his part, the UN envoy, Martin Griffiths, praised the Islah party's efforts supporting the peace process in various Yemeni stations and consultations and congratulated Islah leaders and its bases for the 30th anniversary of the Party’s founding.

Griffiths briefed the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Islah Party of his recent efforts aimed at de-escalation and bringing peace.
