The Republic of Yemen condemned in the strongest terms the continuation of the Houthi militias stealing food aid provided by the World Food Program and obstructing humanitarian work in Yemen.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry blamed the Houthi militias for the World Food Program (WFP) decision issued on Thursday, June 20, 2019, on the partial suspension of humanitarian aid operations in areas controlled by the Houthi militias, particularly in the city of Sana'a, which will affect the 850,000 most vulnerable Yemeni children, women and men.

The Ministry stressed that the continuation of the obstinacy of the Houthis in targeting and steal the food of the neediest citizens in Yemen and the involvement of leaders of this group in these practices without taking into account any human and moral values considers crime and a flagrant violation to international norms and laws.

In its statement, the Ministry said: "The truth that the WFP revealed in the briefing of the WFP's Executive Director, David Paisley, to the Security Council on June 17, 2019, about the theft of food aid by Houthis is only a microcosm of what Houthi militias are doing to most international organizations operating in Yemen, which compelled to be subjected to extorting by the Houthis in order to continue their works in areas under their control."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community and the Security Council to condemn these violations by the Houthi militias and to practice more pressure on them and those who support them in order to stop their violations and allow the United Nations organizations, especially the World Food Program, to carry out their duties and fulfill their noble and humanitarian responsibilities in Yemen.

The Ministry affirmed the government's continued efforts to provide all possible assistance to the noble mission of the World Food Program to deliver food aid and alleviate the suffering of the people of Yemen throughout the country.
