Sources in Sanaa reported that the Houthi militia is stepping up its levying of funds' operations; taking advantage of its control of the country's revenue institutions as well as it imposes customs duties on goods and basic materials coming from areas under the control of the legitimate government.

There are numerous methods of looting by the Houthis, who use a lot of names and deceptions to loot public money or even reach the pockets of Yemenis.

Large-scale corruption also involves revenue collection in violation of the Constitution and the law. There are checkpoints that include Houthi elements deployed in the entrances of cities and on the main roads. These elements practice extortion and impose duties on goods or even on gas and oil derivatives tankers coming from areas controlled by the legitimate government.

Although the owners of these goods pay customs duties in seaports and land ports, the Houthi militias do not recognize these payments but impose their own fees, not interested in the impact of these duties on the prices of goods.

The customs authority under the control of the Houthi militias in Sana'a also obliges car owners to pay their own customs fees once again after they have been paid customs duties for their cars in ports controlled by the legitimate government.

Car owners have complained that militias have raised the proportion of car tariffs from 30% to 50% in a decision they say is sudden and represents systematic looting operations.

Local sources reported that Houthi brokers are deployed in the Customs Authority building to take bribes from owners of cars or goods held in exchange for a reduction in the customs rate or the passage of transactions quickly, in the form of corruption that spread in government institutions under the control of the coup militias.
