Parliamentary blocs condemn the continued crimes of the Houthi militia against the legislative institution and the parliamentarians

The parliamentary blocs followed the continuation of the heinous violations and crimes committed by the terrorist Houthi coup against the people of Yemen and its national forces. The continued systematic violations committed by these militias against the legislative institution and members of parliament, starting with breaking into the parliament building, the arrest of a number of members of parliament, the imposition of house arrest on others, dealing with them as hostages, violation of parliamentary immunity and the pursuit of some of them and their relatives, breaking into and confiscating homes and property of number of MPs and the bombing of the homes of a number of members of Parliament, ignoring all local and international values, laws and customs. These crimes increased after the president's call to convene the parliament in the governorate of Hadramout in the coming days, where the latest violations were the storming of houses of a group of members of parliament in the capital Sana'a by the terrorist Houthi militias on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Members of parliament whose homes have been raided include Sheikh Sultan al-Barkani, Sheikh Rabish Ali Wahban al-Aliyi, Sultan al-Atwani, Sakhr al-Wajih. These incursions have led to the intimidation of the homes of women and children who have been forcibly removed from these houses and looted their contains without taking into consideration the sanctity of houses and their residents, just as they had previously confiscated the houses and properties of MP Fathi Tawfiq Abdel Rahim. The militias also threatened other MPs to break into and loot their houses in order to prevent parliamentarians from performing their constitutional and legal duties and resume parliamentary sessions, which have been forcibly disabled by the Houthi militias for the last four years.

At a time when parliamentary blocs strongly condemn these attacks, which violate all humanitarian values and norms, they confirm that the actions of the Houthi militias against members of parliament and other national figures, as well as the people of Yemen that reject the existence of these priestly militias indicates that they continue to tyranny and blatant violations against all segments of Yemeni society in a systematic manner.

The violations and practices of the Houthi militias prove every day that they continue their war against the Yemeni people and the destruction of their social fabric and values, as well as their unwillingness to achieve peace and that violence and practicing violations for them are an irreversible option.

We regard these criminal acts at this time not only as a provocation to the feelings of Yemenis, but as a provocation to the international community and the United Nations, which is making efforts to bring peace to Yemen. All these efforts clash with the Houthis' stubbornness and determination to practice more arrogance and violence. Indeed, these militias are increasing their blatant defiance by targeting MPs as representatives of the Yemeni people who express their will.

At the same time that the parliamentary blocs salute and praise the steadfastness of the members of Parliament and their stand by the legitimacy in the face of the militias of the coup, they call on the United Nations, the international community and the Secretary-General's envoy to Yemen, Mr. Martin Griffiths to condemn and reject these terrorist acts as well as pressure on the Houthi coup to stop these criminal practices, the implementation of UN resolution 2216 and to classify the Houthi militias as a terrorist group that threaten local, regional and international security and peace.

We also call upon the Inter-Parliamentary Union and all brotherly and friendly parliaments to condemn these violations and to support the Yemeni legitimacy and its institutions.
